We Can't Engineer Our Way Out of This: An Article on Wave Climate

Posted on under Projects

This project is a bit different from all the other projects I've posted here, in that I originally did it as a school assignment.

For a class called Intro to Science Writing for the Public, I was tasked with creating a piece of science writing that addressed the following:

  • Addressing a relevant and timely scientific issue in a non-academic manner
  • Maintaining relevancy to a specific audience, possibly within a local community
  • Filling a niche in science writing, i.e. distinguishing the work from existing science writing on the topic

To that end, I created what I call an "interactive news article", a multimedia piece that includes animations that the reader can interact with directly. I've seen pieces of writing that include animations that the user can scroll back and forth, but I figured that it could be interesting to include more interactive sections, like those found in code tutorials. My hope is that including these kinds of interactives can drive audiences to engage with and become more curious about what they read.

You can read the full article by clicking here.

Note: If the page says that it can't load Google Maps correctly, just click "OK". The flooding simulation should still work, I just didn't want to set up an API key for Google Maps.
