TSL minor version release! Sound the alarm!
What's new?
The main focus of this update is on the way that content is structured. Those who have visited the site in the past will remember that posts were originally sorted into one of three categories: Musings, Projects, and Interact. This worked well enough for the dozen or so posts that I had on here, but as time went on I realized that those simple classifications wouldn't work so well for some things I wanted to post here.
If you'll look at the top of the website, you'll now notice that the navigation menu in the header now has four sections instead of five. Home and Account remain the same, but you'll see that the three previously mentioned categories have been replaced by pages for Works and Writings.
At first glance these might seem to be mere synonyms of Projects and Musings, but their scope is actually wider. Works now encompasses not only my interactive and digital works, but also any visual artwork that I've done. This has allowed me to create a separate category for Music that's still under the same general umbrella of non-text works. Similarly, Writings now has separate categories for Musings and the Update Log, meaning that I can feel more comfortable having posts on both my projects and my ramblings.
A wonderful side effect of this partitioning is that the Works and Writings pages can act as a sort of showcase for recent works. In particular, I've set aside room for a Featured Works section on the Works page.
While I recognize that the boundaries between these categories are blurry and that posts can embody multiple categories, I'm still happy with this reorganization. To be honest, it's something I've been wanting to do for a while. Tag systems work well for many blogs, but I think for my own website this system works well enough.

No, this website is not becoming a YouTube channel. Rather, I've added an Atom feed for all you RSS enthusiasts out there! Located at https://thesquishylab.com/feed, this bad boy lets you keep up with any and all posts to the site. Only interested in certain categories? Just add some parameters to the query, e.g. ~/feed?category=projects&category=updates
. Time to party like it's 2005!
The last thing I've added is post descriptions. These were added mainly because the Atom standard requires them, but I figured they were nice enough to also include on the post previews on the site. I don't have much else to say about these, they're pretty straightforward.
I think that pretty much wraps it up. Keep it Squishy!
